Louisiana Dominates Cajun Classic, Sweeps Doubles and Singles Titles

The Cajuns took all four spots in the finals between the doubles and singles draws
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana men's tennis team capped the fall in the best way possible, sweeping the doubles and singles titles at the Cajun Classic at City Club. It was all Louisiana in the finals for both the doubles and singles, shutting out players from South Alabama, Southern Miss, and Xavier (NO).
In a back-and-forth final, William Ribero won the singles draw over teammate Oriol Fillat Gimenez, 6-4, 7-6 (8). Ribero dropped just one set in the four-round event while Fillat Gimenez had only lost one set heading into the finals.
In doubles, Ribero came up just short of both titles. Vasil Dimitrov and Mason Landreth came out on top, beating Ribero and Leonard Tramolay, 6-2.
Louisiana was superb all weekend against two Sun Belt Conference rivals and one of the best programs in the NAIA. The Ragin' Cajuns went 5-0 in the opening round of singles, while three of the four players in the semifinals were from Louisiana. In consolation matches the team went 6-1.
This concludes the Ragin' Cajun fall schedule. The team will resume play in the spring with a schedule to be announced.
