Ragin’ Cajuns seek to build upon momentum gained in recent homestand
WESTWEGO, La. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team competes in the Big Easy Classic at the Alario Center in Westwego, Louisiana over Thanksgiving weekend from Friday-Saturday November 29-30.
The Ragin' Cajuns are slated to compete in the opening game of the Big Easy Classic each day, both of their contests set for an 11:00 a.m. tip-off. UL faces Cleveland State on Friday (Nov. 29), followed by a matchup with 2024 WNIT runner-up Minnesota on Saturday (Nov. 30).
Louisiana is one of 10 women's basketball programs participating in the event that's organized by World Sports Travel. Fan information including tickets and webstream coverage can be found at wsportstravel.com/bigeasyclassic.
Louisiana (3-1) picked up its third straight win on Tuesday, remaining unbeaten since the season opener, starting a busy week of play with a 61-46 win over New Orleans at the Cajundome.
The Ragin' Cajuns are led by double-figure scorers Jaylyn James (13.0), Tamiah Robinson (11.8), Erica Lafayette (10.8) and Lanay Wheaton (10.3). UL ranks No. 1 nationally in three-point field goal percentage (47.2%).

Louisiana returns to the Cajundome on Saturday, December 7 to face Rice in a 2:00 p.m. contest.
The matchup with the Owls begins the final three-game stretch of non-conference games ahead of the December 29 Sun Belt opener at Georgia Southern.
Rice visits the city of Lafayette for the first time since December 1997 and makes its first-ever appearance in the Cajundome. The two programs last met in November 2021 in Houston, a 73-69 win for Louisiana.

- Louisiana finishes off a three-game week competing in the Big Easy Classic at the Alario Center.
- UL brings a three-game win streak to the Alario Center, produced on a sweep of the November homestand.
- The Ragin' Cajuns are on the road for the first time since the November 4 season opener at Northern Illinois.
- Louisiana and Cleveland State last met in the 2017 South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas. It'll be the first-ever meeting with Minnesota.
- Forcing 24 turnovers for the fourth time, the Cajuns downed New Orleans 61-46 on Tuesday to increase their win streak to three games – remaining unbeaten since the heartbreaking season-opening loss at Northern Illinois.
- UL ranks No. 1 nationally in three-point field goal percentage, having converted 47 percent of its 53 attempts so far.
- Led by Jaylyn James' 13.0 ppg, UL has several scoring options with five players averaging at least 8.0 ppg.
- Four games in, the Cajuns are averaging 12.5 offensive rebounds while yielding only seven per game.
- The Cajuns have shown marked improvement in rebounding, having had the upper hand all four games. UL is averaging 35.5 while yielding just 31.8 rebounds per game, and has had double figure offensive boards each time.
- UL has yet to yield 60 points on the young season, holding D1 foes to an average of 52.7 points.
- The season opener at Northern Illinois was the only game outside the state of Louisiana until the Dec. 29 SBC opener at Georgia Southern. UL is currently in a stretch where eight straight games (five at home) are in the state.
- Louisiana has experience on its side with a combined nine players who are either a graduate or senior.
- UL led the SBC in scoring defense – and ranked Top 60 nationally – holding foes below 60 ppg the last two seasons.
- SBC Championship all-tournament selection Tamiah Robinson, the team leader in assists (69) last season, now takes full control of the point guard position.
- Erica Lafayette (Rutgers) and Kamryn Jones (Houston) are a pair of P5 transfers expected to have a significant impact. The duo turned in 20-point double-doubles in the exhibition contest.
- Louisiana was picked 5th in the SBC preseason poll and Jaylyn James was a preseason all-conference selection.
