Wright Scores 21 as Cajuns Fall to Liberty in First Round of Paradise Jam

ST. THOMAS, USVI—Christian Wright had a career game for the Louisiana men's basketball team, but the team couldn't overcome Liberty's hot shooting in an 89-69 defeat in the opening round of the U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam.
Wright ended the day with 21 points, a career-high, and was 5-for-5 from deep. The senior, whose three-pointers all came in the second half, became the first Cajun to make five or more threes and shoot 100 percent from three in the same game since Mylik Wilson back in 2021.
Koron Davis scored 13 points off the bench, going 6-for-10 from the field. Kyndall Davis added 10 points and four assists in the effort.
The sides traded baskets before Kyndall Davis hit a three to put Louisiana ahead 7-4 early in the game. The lead didn't last long as the Flames got hot from the field and took control with a 17-2 run. Trailing by as many as 17 in the opening half, threes by Ky. Davis and Kyran Ratliff brought Louisiana back within 11.
Mostapha El Moutaouakkil scored the first three points of the second half and got the Cajuns within 10 points. That's as close as the game would get as Liberty shot the lights out. The Flames were 33-of-49 (.674 percent) from the field and set a Paradise Jam record for field goal percentage.
The Cajuns return to the court tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. CT in the second round of the Paradise Jam. They'll take on either George Washington or Kansas State depending on the result of their game.
