Ragin' Cajuns Return to the Comforts of Home

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Volleyball team returns to the Hub City as the Ragin' Cajuns host Arkansas State in a Sun Belt Conference series at E.K. Long Gym beginning Friday evening.

Louisiana (6-13, 2-6 SBC) and Arkansas State (18-4, 8-2 SBC) start the two-match series at 6:00 p.m. on Friday (Nov. 1), then conclude play on Saturday (Nov. 2) in a 1:00 p.m. contest. The matches are being broadcast on ESPN+.

The UL Volleyball program will be conducting a canned food drive to benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank throughout the series with the Red Wolves.

It's a vital weekend for the Ragin' Cajuns chances of earning a spot in the SBC Championship tournament, needing at least one win to remain in the running.

Louisiana returns home to E.K. Long Gym for the first time in three weeks, last at the facility on October 11.
For the second straight week the Ragin' Cajuns challenge the SBC West Division leader, this time facing Arkansas State. UL has won the last seven matchups with ASU dating back to 2020.
The ASU series is one of two remaining division series remaining for Louisiana to pick up wins that could place the squad in the SBC Championship tournament picture.
UL's defense eclipsed 100 digs both nights the last time at E.K. Long (vs. Southern Miss from Oct. 10-11), totaling 228 digs (25.3/set). The team ranks No. 2 in digs per set in SBC play (17.9/set).
Both the Cajuns and Red Wolves have played their fair share of five-set matches – a combined 13. Both have been successful: Louisiana stands 6-1 while ASU is 5-1 this season when going the distance.
Louisiana has played through 432 ties and 168 lead changes this season, lending to a deceiving record.
Currently at 458 career blocks, Cami Hicks is the program's rally scoring era leader in career blocks and is the only Ragin' Cajun to reach 400 career blocks in the rally era.
Cami Hicks leads the SBC in blocks per set both overall (1.4) and in conference play (1.5).
Led by Cami Hicks' 2.1 blocks per set (17 total), Louisiana threw up an average of 3.5 blocks per set (28 total) at Troy – out-blocking the Trojans 28-7 in the series.
Cailin Demps found her footing the final week of non-conference play, scoring 45 kills (3.5/set). She enters November with 219 kills, a new personal single-season best (topping 192 as a freshman at Southern Miss).
Libero Mio Yamamoto has posted ten 20-plus dig efforts this season and 20 total in the Cajuns uniform.
Lauryn Hill has joined Cailin Demps in charging the offense in SBC play, her 82 kills right behind Demps' 85.
The Cajuns entered the season shorthanded, without the services of all-conference setter Siena DeCambra (season-ending injury) and a 300-200 kills-digs performer Shyia Richardson sidelined with injury.
Mio Yamamoto represented Louisiana on the 2024 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Volleyball team. Yamamoto was selected the Preseason SBC Libero of the Year; she claimed the award in 2023.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns take a road trip to north Louisiana, traveling to Monroe for a two-match Sun Belt Conference series with ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum from Thursday-Friday, November 7-8.

UL is scheduled to meet the Warhawks at 6:00 p.m. both nights. Live video coverage of both matches is available on ESPN+.

The matchup against ULM marks the final division contests in SBC play for Louisiana – contests that could factor into a spot in the SBC Championship tournament.
