Louisiana Heads to Florida to Open Men’s Tennis Season

The team looks to build off a strong 2023 season
BOCA RATON, Florida - The 2024 spring season begins in Florida this weekend for the Louisiana men's tennis team. They open the year against Florida Atlantic on Friday before taking on Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday.
The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off a 2023 season that saw them win 12 matches and finish third in the Sun Belt Conference. The team ended the year ranked No. 74 nationally and clinched a spot in the ITA Indoor Championships.
Louisiana returns eight players from last season's roster, including Oriol Fillat Gimenez who missed last spring due to injury. Vasil Dimitrov, Alejo Ferrer Chueca, Calin Postea, William Ribero, and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez all saw major action last year and return to this year's roster.
The Cajuns travel to Florida Atlantic for the first time since 2009. The Owls have won the last two times these sides met in 2017 and 2022. The Cajuns last beat them back in 2013 to advance to the Sun Belt Conference semifinals.
This marks the second consecutive season the Cajuns face Florida Gulf Coast after their inaugural match-up last year in Lafayette. Louisiana came away victorious in that one, 4-3, with Dimitrov winning the clinching point.
