The Cajuns are on their second game of a four-game road swing
JONESBORO, Arkansas – The Louisiana men's basketball team heads to Jonesboro, Arkansas to take on Arkansas State in a Sun Belt Conference battle. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. from the First National Bank Center.
The Ragin' Cajuns are coming off a tight game at Troy in which they fell 79-73. Kobe Julien led the way with 20 points in a bounce-back performance. Hosana Kitenge had a solid game with 13 points and nine rebounds, including five on the offensive end. Themus Fullks finished with 13 points and four assists while Brandon Hardy added 12 off the bench.
Arkansas State comes into the weekend as winners of three straight, all of them at home. Saturday closes a four-game home swing for the Red Wolves. Caleb Fields had a big game on Thursday against Texas State, scoring a career-high 35 points along with 10 assists in an 85-82 win.
Story Lines
• Joe Charles turned in as complete a game as anyone in college basketball last Saturday. The junior scored 22 points with 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, 4 three-pointers, 3 assists, and 3 steals, becoming just the fourth player to achieve that stat line or better since 1996. The other 3 players in that group are Mike Daum (South Dakota State, 2019), Xavier Cooks (Winthrop, 2018), and Jake Stephens (Chattanooga, 2022). His performance made him just the second player in the Bob Marlin era with a 20-point, 14-rebound, 5-block game, joining Shawn Long who did it 4 times as a Cajun.
• Louisiana has had terrific individual performances in their last two trips to Jonesboro. In each of those games, two Cajuns recorded a double-double. In last season's 85-74 win, Jordan Brown finished with 31 points and 13 rebounds while Themus Fulks had 13 points and 11 assists. The year prior Brown finished with 20 points and 12 boards while Kobe Julien had 17 points and 10 rebounds.
• Kobe Julien continues to lead the SBC in scoring at 17.5 points per game on the season. Themus Fulks is second in the league in assists at 4.5 per game. Joe Charles is second in rebounding at 9.7 per game. The junior is also third in steals at 1.8 and fourth in blocks at 1.6 per game.
• Louisiana has won three of the last four and seven of the last ten in the series. The only victories in that stretch for the Red Wolves have been in Jonesboro.
• This is the 7th road game in a stretch where the Cajuns are playing 9 of 12 away from the Cajundome.
• A win would be the 1,500th victory in program history.
