Louisiana Cross Country Opens Season in Beaumont

The Ragin’ Cajuns start the season at the Early Bird Opener hosted by Lamar
BEAUMONT, Texas - Coming off a successful year in 2022, the Louisiana cross country team heads to Beaumont, Texas to start the 2023 season at the Early Bird Opener hosted by Lamar. The women open the Friday night event at 6:30 p.m. before the men run at 7 p.m. from the Cris Quinn Soccer Complex.

The Cajun men return three of their top five runners from last season's Sun Belt Conference Championships, John Walker McDonald, Samuel Avants, and Peyton Chiasson. The team was picked to finish fifth in the Sun Belt Conference, matching last season's showing, announced last Thursday.

Haley Salsbury had the highest finish at the SBC Championships of the returners on the women's side. She's joined by Brooke and Caroline Spallita, who finished 51st and 62nd at the SBC Championships respectively. This season the Cajuns were picked to finish eighth in the SBC after a ninth-place showing in 2022.
