Daigle named state's top Women's runner; Badeaux selected as men's co-Coach of the Year

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns runner Sophie Daigle and head coach Lon Badeaux were among the honorees named to the 2022 Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) Men's and Women's Cross Country teams, the organization released on Thursday.

Members on the squads are honored by the top individual times for men (8-kilometers) and women (6-kilometers) during the 2022 season. The specialty awards were selected after nominations and voting from the state's Cross Country sports information directors.

Daigle, the Sun Belt Conference runner-up and league's Newcomer of the Year, became the first woman in school history to qualify for the NCAA Championships after finishing third overall at the NCAA South Central Regional with a personal-best time of 20:22.2 on the 6K course.

The USTFCCCA South Central All-Region and NCAA Division I Cross Country All-Academic runner became the second Louisiana Women's Cross Country runner to earn runner-up honors at the SBC Cross Country Championships after posting the best individual finish by a Ragin' Cajuns women's runner in 19 years and helped guide Louisiana to its best finish since 2017.

Badeaux of Louisiana and Adrian Myers of Tulane were tabbed as the LSWA Men's Co-Coaches of the Year after guiding their teams to success in the 2022 season.

Badeaux led Louisiana to its best finish at the SBC Championships since 2017 as both teams finished fifth overall. The Ragin' Cajuns men's team was ranked as high as No. 12 in the USTFCCCA South Central Region.
