Cajuns claimed earlier meeting at #TheTigue; will host Texas State beginning Friday
RUSTON – Coming off a three-game Sun Belt Conference sweep at ULM, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team heads west along I-20 to close out its 2023 midweek schedule on Tuesday against in-state rival Louisiana Tech at J.C. Love Field at Pat Patterson Park.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed live on CUSA.tv (subscription required) with fans able to listen to the game in the Lafayette area on 103.3 The Goat, 1420 AM and worldwide on the Varsity Network app.
Louisiana (32-17) earned a three-game sweep against ULM last weekend, beginning with an 8-4 win over Friday before claiming a 12-4 victory on Saturday and a 10-0 weather-shortened decision on Sunday.
Max Marusak led Louisiana at the plate in the series going 7-for-10 with a triple, home run and three stolen bases. Julian Brock hit .538 (7-for-13) in the series for the Ragin' Cajuns with Carson Roccaforte finishing 5-for-10 with three doubles and a home run.
Heath Hood (.359-4-31) and Kyle DeBarge (.359-5-28) are the top hitters for Louisiana with Brock (.342-10-53), Roccaforte (.333-3-36) and John Taylor (.310-6-38) following among the regulars. Conor Higgs, who has started the past 12 games for Louisiana, is hitting .395 on the season with five homers and 24 RBI.
Louisiana Tech (24-25) took two of three games from UAB in a Conference USA series last weekend with the Bulldogs claiming the first two games – 16-3 and 7-4. The Blazers earned a 6-1 victory in Sunday's finale.
Jorge Corona (.293-9-30) and Logan McLeod (.288-1-26) lead the Bulldogs at the plate with Philip Matulia (.223-14-35) leading the team in home runs with Dalton Davis (.270-6-36) pacing the Bulldogs in RBI.
Right-hander Alec Sparks (3-3, 5.33 ERA) will earn the start for Louisiana Tech in the opener with Louisiana's starter to be determined.
Louisiana claimed a 10-5 win over the Bulldogs on April 11 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park and lead the all-time series, 84-71.
