Cajuns Place Two on the Pole Vault Podium on Day Two of SBC Championships

The Cajun men and women are in fifth place heading into the final day of action
MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Louisiana track and field team is in contention for the Sun Belt Conference championship heading into the final day at the Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The Cajuns got major contributions in the men's pole vault event where they snagged two of the top three spots.
Nick Russell took home silver in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 5.06 m. In the third spot was Timothy Gale who cleared 4.91 m on the first try. The men also had a strong performance in the long jump with three jumpers scoring. Obdarius Ware took home third (7.21 m), with Rylan Theyard (7.02 m) right behind him in fourth and Jeremy Nelson (6.83 m) in eighth.
Jacqueline Pokuaah's jump of 5.81 m in the women's long jump placed her sixth to score in one of just four counted events for the women. Luke Benoit held down eighth place to score in the decathlon with 6,223 points while Peyton Chiasson closed out the night with a fifth-place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:15.01).
The Cajuns also had plenty of qualifiers for tomorrow's field finals. Kennedy London locked up her place in the women's 100-meter hurdles in third place (13.36). In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Loubert Dagrin qualified fourth (14.06). Moseisha Bridgen locked her spot in the women's 400-meter finals with a time of 55.37 seconds.
A trio of Cajun men will compete in the finals of the 100-meter with Brock Appiah (10.416) in third, Trejun Jones (10.420) in fourth, and Jamhad Booth in seventh (10.53). Joseph Patterson was the fastest qualifier in the men's 800-meter with a time of 1:53.14 while teammate Jacob Meek was seventh with a 1:54.26.
The final day of the SBC Outdoor Championships begins tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the Cajuns sitting in fifth place on both the men's and women's sides. Action in the track events starts at 3 p.m. with the women's 4x100-meter relay.
