Tchanichev and Yoshimura Earn Wins in Weekend Finale

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana women's tennis team closed out their weekend at the Youngsville Sports Complex against Marshall on Sunday. Cristina Tchanichev and Momoko Yoshimura picked up straight-set wins for the Ragin' Cajuns but it wasn't enough as the Thundering Herd pulled it out 5-2.
The Cajuns made quick work of the Herd on court one in doubles with Carla Urchoeguia and Angelique Berrat pulling off a 6-0 sweep. Despite the quick win, the Cajuns fell on court two 6-4 and court three 6-3, giving the Herd the point.
Tchanichev secured the first singles point dispatching Aisling McGrane 6-1, 6-2. After Lucie Raquin fell on court two, Yoshimura tied the score on court six with a 6-4, 6-1 win. The margin was razor thin in the other three contests. Berrat fell on court three in a tight second set, 6-2, 7-5. On courts one and five, Uchoeguia and Laure-Line Monnoyer couldn't pull out the win in a pair of 6-4, 6-4 matches.
