Louisiana claims doubles point and three straight-set singles wins in dominant performance
LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team coasted to its seventh consecutive victory as its March homestand began on Saturday, March 14, defeating Southern Miss, 4-0, at Cajun Courts.
Louisiana (9-3) secured the early momentum by claiming the doubles point.
The duo of Angelique Berrat and Nina Krecklenberg opened the scoring with a 6-2 win on Court 2, before Martina Della Gora and Safia Zenbi clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 decision on Court 1.
The Ragin' Cajuns carried the momentum into singles play, starting off with an early advantage on five of the six courts. UL went on to capture three straight matches in convincing fashion to seal the shutout over USM (6-4).
Ana Martinez Vaquero extended Louisiana's match lead with a commanding 6-2, 6-0 victory over Pimmada Lim on Court 5. Rocio Navarro followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win against Manuella Persson on Court 6.
Safia Zenbi delivered the clinching point for Louisiana, defeating Kamornwan Kornsila in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, on Court 3.
Several other matches were in progress when play was halted, including Berrat's tightly contested battle on Court 1 and Marilou Bressan's comeback effort on Court 2.
Saturday's outing began a stretch of five consecutive home matches for the Ragin' Cajuns, which keeps the team at Cajun Courts through April 1.
