Louisiana Heads West To Face McNeese In Midweek Baseball

LAFAYETTE – Coming off a four-game sweep of BYU in its opening week at home, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team heads west to face in-state foe McNeese on Tuesday at Joe Miller Ballpark.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. The game can be heard in the Lafayette area on 103.3 The Goat with Cody Junot (pxp) and Anthony Babineaux (color) providing commentary.
The midweek game is the 177th meeting between Louisiana (6-1) and McNeese (3-4) with the Ragin' Cajuns holding a 100-76 advantage. The teams will complete the home-and-home schedule on March 8 in a 6 p.m. contest at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park.
Mason Zambo (.429-1-5) and Heath Hood (.423-1-7) have paced Louisiana at the plate with Hood hitting safely in all seven games for Louisiana. Hood, who has reached base safely in 245 straight games dating back to last season, leads the team with three stolen bases with CJ Willis leading the team with eight RBI.
Right-hander Brendan Moody (0-0, 1.17 ERA) will make his second start on the mound for Louisiana after tossing a season-high 6.0 innings and fanning eight in the home opener last Wednesday against BYU.
McNeese (3-4) took two of three games last weekend at UT Arlington, claiming wins in the first two contests before dropping a 12-6 contest in the finale.
Cooper Hext leads McNeese with a .333 batting average followed by Payton Harden (.308) and Brad Burckel (.300). Hext leads the team with two home runs while Josh Leslie tops the squad with seven RBI.
Right-hander Kainin Morrow will get his first start on the mound on Tuesday night. Morrow (0-0, 3.86 ERA) has appeared in two games on the year and has tossed 4.2 innings in relief work.
After facing McNeese, Louisiana will return home for a three-game series beginning Friday at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field at Russo Park against 2022 NCAA Regional participant Campbell. The teams will open with a 6 p.m. contest on Friday before facing on 2 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
