Cajuns Line Up Against 7th-Ranked Tigers Sunday at the PMAC
12/9/2023 2:00:00 PM | Women's Basketball
Louisiana scheduled for 2:00 p.m. matinee with defending national champions
BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team travels to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center in Baton Rouge on Sunday (Dec. 10) for a 2:00 p.m. matchup with defending national champion No. 7-ranked LSU, marking the team's final road game of December.
Following Sunday's tilt with the Tigers, the Ragin' Cajuns return home for a month-ending, four-game homestand at the Cajundome that begins on Wednesday, December 13.
Both Louisiana (3-2) and LSU (8-1) are returning to play following a break for fall semester final exams – the Ragin' Cajuns last playing December 2 at New Orleans and the Tigers last contest occurring Nov. 30 vs. No. 9 Virginia Tech in the PMAC.
The UL-LSU game will be streamed live on SECN+ (accessible via espn.com/watch) and can be heard in the Acadiana region on The GOAT 103.3 FM/1420 AM and worldwide on the Varsity Network.
For the fifth time in the past seven seasons the Cajuns and Tigers meet. The two programs convene at the PMAC for the first time since December 2020.
It'll be a classic battle of wills: Louisiana possessing a Top 40-ranked scoring defense (54.6) and LSU countering with a Top 5-ranked scoring offense (93.8).
The Ragin' Cajuns are 2-0 against in-state teams this season, an overtime triumph over Nicholls and last Saturday's 44-41 win at UNO composing the team's active two-game win streak. The results improved UL to 64-14 against Pelican State foes in the Garry Brodhead era.
Sunday's game marks the first of four outings for Louisiana to regain rhythm prior to Sun Belt play starting on December 30 – the Cajuns are playing just their second regular season game in the past three weeks due to a Nov. 19-Dec. 1 exhibition game break.
Tamera Johnson's 14-point, 10-rebound double-double average has paced the Cajuns efforts thus far. Brandi Williams, back from injury that forced her out the past two seasons, has already knocked down 10 triples and is averaging 12.8 points per game. Third-year starting point guard Destiny Rice is the third double-figure scorer (10.2 ppg) while Utah State transfer Tamiah Robinson leads with 13 assists and is second in rebounds (29).
LSU has won eight straight games since a season-opening loss to now-No. 8 Colorado in Las Vegas (back on Nov. 6). The Tigers have an active 22-game win streak at the PMAC. Early stat leaders in Year 3 of the Kim Mulkey era include DePaul transfer Aneesah Morrow (18.2) and freshman Mikaylah Williams (17.8) in scoring, Angel Reese (10.0) in rebounding and Louisville transfer Hailey Van Lith (5.0) in assists.
