Game dedicated to Crowley’s Madelyn Daigle who is courageously battling cancer
LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Softball team hosts McNeese in its final fall exhibition game on Friday, November 3 at Yvette Girouard Field at Lamson Park, dedicating the contest as Team Madelyn Night in support of Crowley native Madelyn Daigle who is presently battling cancer.
Â
In support of Daigle, who will be throwing out the first pitch at 5:48 p.m., fans are encouraged to wear orange. NBC's The Today Show will be filming the first pitch to include in a segment on the show's St. Jude's Thanksgiving broadcast.
Â
Ragin' Cajuns team members will be wearing Madelyn's Miracles t-shirts while playing the game.
Â
Louisiana and McNeese are scheduled to play a 10-inning exhibition starting at 6:00 p.m.
Â
Admission to fall softball games at Lamson Park is free. The Louisiana Athletics Clear Bag Policy will be in effect; permitted items can be viewed here.
Concessions will be available for purchase (no outside food/drinks allowed).
Parking, on a first-come, first serve basis, is available in the Lamson Park lot at Bourgeois Hall. Fans can also park at the Cajun Field lot on the corner of Cajundome Boulevard and Reinhardt Drive.
Â
It's the second meeting this fall with Cowgirls. UL posted a 10-1 victory in Lake Charles back on October 17 behind a 5-for-5 showing from Mihyia Davis, three RBI apiece from Laney Credeur and Cecilia Vasquez and six innings of no-hit relief from pitchers Sam Landry (4.0 IP, 6 K) and Lexie Delbrey (2.0 IP, 1 K).
Â
Louisiana is 5-0 in its 2023 fall exhibition segment, having swept a series with LSU Eunice and Southeastern in addition to the previous McNeese triumph. The Ragin' Cajuns have outscored the opposition 81-9, slugged 44 extra base hits (25 doubles, 3 triples, 16 home runs) and yielded just 24 hits over 49 innings pitched.
Â
At the plate, Alexa Langeliers sports a team-best .611 average (11-for-18), Davis has collected a team-leading 12 hits on a .522 average (12-for-23) and Lauren Allred (13) and Denali Loecker (10) have generated double-digit RBI. Allred also leads the squad in home runs (4).
Â
Pitching-wise, all five arms have worked at least eight innings with Sam Ryan pitching two-hit, shutout softball (8.0 IP, 2 H, 7 K). Landry (14.0 IP, 21 K) and Loecker (11.0 IP, 12 K) have worked double-digit innings and surrendered only one earned run each.
Â
Friday's play marks Louisiana's final game against outside competition until the spring season begins in February 2024 with the 38th Annual Louisiana Classics from February 8-11 at Lamson Park.
Â
ABOUT LOUISIANA
Louisiana is coming off a fourth consecutive Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament championship, the program's 24th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance, a No. 9 RPI rating, a Top 20 finish across the board in all major national polls, and a trip to the NCAA Super Regional round last spring.
Â
With a now veteran-laden roster, as head coach Gerry Glasco's No. 1 recruiting Class of 2022 now enters their junior campaign, plus the key summer transfer additions highlighted by the Florida duo of Lexie Delbrey and Sam Roe, there's plenty reason enough for heightened expectations in the coming spring season.
Â
This fall the Ragin' Cajuns also welcome a pair of new faces to the coaching staff in defensive coach Hunter Veach and hitting coach Shellie Landry, an All-American alumnae who competed for the program from 2013-16. Their addition provides Glasco with a specific coach for every facet of the game, to go along with pitching coach Justin Robichaux.
