Justin Robichaux renewed his ties with Louisiana Athletics in August 2021 when he was hired as an assistant coach for Ragin' Cajuns Softball.
Robichaux, a 2011 graduate of the University, returned to his alma mater where he last served as the director of operations for Louisiana Baseball under the leadership of his father and collegiate baseball coaching legend Tony Robichaux.
The Lafayette-area native worked with and provided pitching instruction for male and female elite-level athletes for 10-plus years, preparing for the opportunity to enter the collegiate coaching ranks, prior to joining Gerry Glasco's coaching staff.
In his first two years leading and mentoring the Ragin' Cajuns pitching staff (2022-23), Robichaux's unit has produced nation-leading results. Louisiana ranked Top 5 nationally in total strikeouts both years highlighted by having one of only three pitching staffs in the country to record 500 strikeouts during the 2022 season, and also sported a Top 25 ranked earned run average while holding foes to a sub-.200 average both years.
Robichaux's system produced 36 shutouts combined over the 2022 and 2023 seasons, capped off by ranking Top 10 nationally in shutouts with 20 blankings in the 2023 season.
He has coached three All-Sun Belt performers in Sam Landry, Kandra Lamb and Meghan Schorman. Landry was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2023 Sun Belt Conference Tournament after yielding only a single run, three hits and striking out 18 over 14 innings in the event capped off by a one-hit shutout of Marshall in the title game, and was later named the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Pithcer of the Year. Schorman earned NFCA All-Central Region honors in 2023 after a regular season that included her tossing a no-hitter of UCF and a three-hit shutout of Florida, both on the road, plus wins over Indiana and LSU.
Robichaux competed for his hometown Ragin' Cajuns on the baseball diamond from 2007-10 developing into one of the Sun Belt's top pitchers - with the top earned run average (fourth-lowest in the nation) by a full point as a junior in 2009 - while crafting the program's single-season record and career record for saves.
Prior to launching his professional career, Robichaux served as a student coach for Louisiana Baseball during the 2011 season. From there, he established a successful career in the private sector across a variety of industries, fostering strong relationships and leadership abilities.
"It's an honor and a privilege to represent the Ragin' Cajuns brand and this is an opportunity that my family is excited about," Robichaux said. "It's a blessing to play a small part in something big, helping to develop these student-athletes on and off the field, as well being associated with a top-notch staff.
"It's always a great situation to be around family," Robichaux mentioned." If I had to choose one word to describe the athletic department, coaching staff and student-athletes it would be family. When family is around, you are always 'home'."
Robichaux and his wife, Leigh Ann, reside in Lafayette with their two daughters, Evelyn and Roslyn.
