Tholis comes to Louisiana after two seasons at Lamar

LAFAYETTE - The Louisiana track and field team announced the hiring of new assistant Matt Tholis to the coaching staff on Tuesday, October 24.

Tholis spent the last two seasons at Lamar as the throws coach helping the women to a Southland Conference Outdoor Championship last spring.

Last season at Lamar, Tholis helped Glennis Wooldridge place second overall in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put. That came after the women finished second in the league at the indoor championships. On the men's side, Nathaniel Mathura finished fourth in Southland in the javelin under the tutelage of Tholis.

Before heading to Lamar, Tholis also spent two years at Southeastern Louisiana working with throwers and multi-event athletes. A two-time All-American javelin-thrower at East Stroudsburg University in Pennsylvania, he also was also a volunteer assistant at LSU where he helped hammer-thrower Jake Norris finish third at the NCAA championships and set a school record in the event.

The Belle Mead, New Jersey native came to Southeastern after serving as a volunteer assistant coach at LSU. At LSU Tholis helped coach hammer thrower Jake Norris to a new school record and a NCAA 3rd place finish.

The Belle Mead, New Jersey native, served as both an assistant track and field coach as well as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Lebanon Valley College. Tholis has also coached for both his alma mater high school and college, all while teaching health and exercise science courses at The County College of Morris in Randolph, New Jersey.

Tholis earned both his Master's and Bachelor's degrees in exercise science from East Stroudsburg. While competing for the Warriors Tholis set the school record, earned All-America honors in both 2012 and 2013, and was named the Mid-Atlantic Region Scholar Athlete of the Year.
