HOUSTON – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Tennis team closed out a season-opening, two-match road trip on Sunday falling to Rice, 7-0, at the Advantage Indoors Facility.
The match for Louisiana (0-2) was moved indoors due to rain in the Houston area. Rice improved to 2-1 in spring duals matches on the season.
Rice claimed the doubles point with a pair of 6-2 decisions, capped by the No. 3 team of Marte Lembrecht and Allison Zipoli over the freshmen tandem of Stephanie Atelius and Cristine Tchanichev.
The Owls would claim all six singles matches with Zipoli clinching the contest on the No. 1 court with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lucie Raquin. Momoko Yoshimura would take Rice's Lambrecht to a first-set, tie-breaker at No. 5 singles before falling, 7-6, 6-1.
Louisiana will return to Cajun Courts for its next five matches beginning on Feb. 10 when it makes its 2023 home debut against Southern at 11 a.m. The match against the Jaguars is the first of three home matches in three days as the Ragin' Cajuns will host McNeese (Feb. 11) and Southeastern Louisiana (Feb. 12).
Admission to all matches at Cajun Courts is free.
