Cajuns Close Out Vandy Invite With Impressive Showing

NASHVILLE – The team of Brock Appiah, Kashie Crockett, Javed Jones and Nathan Fergusson closed out the Vanderbilt Invitational with a first-place performance in the men's 4x400-meter relay while a pair of Ragin' Cajuns posted top marks among Sun Belt Conference athletes in their respective events on Saturday at the Vanderbilt Multipurpose Facility.
Trejun Jones posted the fastest-time among SBC athletes in the men's 60-meter dash (6.72) preliminaries for Louisiana with Baptiste Depril-Dupre posting the SBC-best time (1:53.04) in the men's 800-meters.
Louisiana claimed the men's 4x400-meter in a heat which included Georgia Tech, Kentucky and Southern Miss. The Ragin' Cajuns posted a time of 3:13.65 to finish two seconds ahead of Georgia Tech and nearly three seconds ahead of Little Rock.
Fergusson, who ran the anchor leg for Louisiana in the 4x4, joined Jones as top-8 finishers in the men's 400-meter dash after clocking a time of 47.91 to finish seventh with Jones (48.12) placing eighth.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Loubert Dagrin was third overall for Louisiana after posting a time of 8.05 seconds with Ronnie Jackson finishing seventh.
Jeremy Nelson (51-1¾) and Rylan Theyard (49-2½) finished second and sixth respectively in the men's triple jump for Louisiana with Luke Benoit placing eighth overall in the heptathlon (4,650 points).
Jacqueline Pokuaah recorded the second-best mark in the SBC in the women's triple jump after clearing 41-10½ to finish sixth overall for Louisiana while Taylor Davis placed 11th at 40-4¾. Cammi Martinez earned a fifth-place performance in the women's pole vault for the Ragin' Cajuns, clearing the bar at 11-11¾ with Jordan Brown placing eighth at 11-3¾.
Freshman Courtney Wiltz qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles for Louisiana, placing eighth overall at 8.88 while Alexandra Johnson was 16th in the 800-meters (2:17.22).
Louisiana placed fifth overall in the women's 4x400-meter relay as the team of Ta'La Spates, Moseisha Bridgen, Kayla McCray and Johnson won its heat over Georgia Tech, Little Rock and Memphis and posted a time of 3:51.18.
Bridgen and Spates also combined to post a top-8 finish in the women's 40-meters with Bridgen finishing sixth (57.28) and Spates eighth (57.51).
Louisiana will return to action on Friday with a pair of events, competing at both the McNeese College Indoor and the University of Houston Invitational.
