LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Tennis has added Thomas Sevel as an assistant coach, head coach Luc Godin announced on Thursday (September 1, 2022).

A native of Saint-Raphael, France, Sevel joins the Ragin' Cajuns with a wealth of coaching experience both internationally and collegiately.

He has coaching experience at Paris West Tennis Academy and Odyssey Tennis Academy in France, as well as a stint at the Legacy Youth Tennis and Education Center in Philadelphia.

Most recently, Sevel spent two years (2019-21) at his alma mater, Temple, working as a graduate assistant for the men's and women's tennis programs. During the 2021-22 season, he was on staff as a volunteer assistant with Harvard's women's tennis program.

"We are excited to welcome Thomas to the team," Godin said. "He will immediately impact many aspects of the program, and help us compete at the national level.

"Before joining the college tennis ranks, Thomas was a ranked player in France. He finished his college career at the top of the lineup at Temple, where he stayed as a graduate assistant for two years before accepting the volunteer position at Harvard.

"Thomas is one of the up-and-coming young coaches in college tennis, and we are happy that he has chosen Louisiana as his home."

Prior to arriving in the United States in 2014, Sevel competed on the junior tennis circuit throughout Europe. He began playing collegiately at Augusta (Ga.) University, then after finishing undefeated in his second season he transferred to Temple where he played No. 1 singles and doubles for two additional years, reaching a UTR high of 13.2.

Sevel received his bachelor's degree in business management from Temple in 2019 and continued on to earn his master's degree in sport business with a concentration in marketing and promotions in 2021.

The France native joins a men's tennis program that returns every player from a squad that finished the Spring 2022 dual match season ranked in the ITA Collegiate Tennis National Team Rankings (at No. 61) – one of only two teams in the state of Louisiana ranked and the highest in the Sun Belt Conference.

The 2022 Ragin' Cajuns built a 17-win regular season on the strength of an impressive 14-match win streak which included quality wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, Rice, Texas Tech, ETSU, and UTSA, captured the title at the prestigious H-E-B Tournament of Champions, and raced out to a 4-0 start in Sun Belt play which included an impressive 4-1 win over Georgia State. The winning streak, and the squad's 15-1 start that ran through mid-March, marked the program's best marks in the 2000s era.
