Largest contingent for Ragin' Cajuns on all-state team since 2018

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Baseball team placed four players on the 2022 Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA) College Baseball Team, the organization announced on Tuesday.

Named to the 37-member team was first-team selection Carson Roccaforte (first base) and second-team picks Bo Bonds (pitcher), Julian Brock (catcher) and Connor Kimple (designated hitter).

Roccaforte, a first-team All-Sun Belt and ABCA All-South Region selection, posted a triple crown for Louisiana with a .374 average with 16 home runs and 68 RBI. The sophomore led Louisiana in 12 statistical categories during the season and finished as the fourth-leading hitter in the league.

He hit .420 in Sun Belt Conference play and finished second in the SBC in hits, RBI and stolen bases.

Bonds posted a 5-3 record with a 3.11 earned run average in his lone season at Louisiana. He led the team in strikeouts with 83 and tied for the team lead in victories. The Live Oak, Fla., product was part of a Ragin' Cajuns pitching staff which led the Sun Belt Conference in ERA (4.24).

Bonds averaged 13.6 strikeouts per nine innings and fanned a season-high 14 batters – including 10 straight – in 5.2 innings against South Alabama.

Brock posted a .303 batting average with seven home runs and 35 RBI in his first full season as a starter. The Fulshear, Texas native earned first-team All-Sun Belt Conference honors and posted career-highs in all categories, finishing fifth on the team in hitting, third in home runs and fourth in RBI.

Behind the plate, Brock was the SBC leader in putouts (478) and threw out 24 of possible 60 runners on stolen base attempts. Brock started 47 consecutive games behind the plate during the season and had 19 multi-hit games, highlighted by 4-for-5 performance against Arkansas State.

Kimple hit .319 with nine home runs and 37 RBI as a senior for Louisiana as he played the majority of the season as the Ragin' Cajuns DH. Kimple finished third on the team in hitting, second in slugging percentage, home runs, triples and total bases.

He was named the SBC Player of the Week after the opening weekend of the season after homering in each contest of a three-game series against UC Irvine. Kimple finished 5-for-10 with six RBI in Louisiana's season-opening series win over UCI and hit .327 in SBC games.

The quartet marked the largest contingent of Ragin' Cajuns on the LSWA team since 2018 when Colten Schmidt, Daniel Lahare, Hogan Harris and Logan Stoelke were named.
