Louisiana Softball's leader set to guide efforts of Smash It Sports Vipers
LAFAYETTE - Louisiana Softball head coach Gerry Glasco, who directed the program to a three-peat as Sun Belt Conference champions and an appearance on Championship Sunday of an NCAA Regional in spring 2022, is spending the summer months continuing to grow the game of softball at the professional level.
From mid-June to early-August, Glasco is serving as head coach of the Smash It Sports Vipers in the newly organized Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF) league. The goal of the league, which also includes the USSSA Pride, is to showcase the best athletes in softball, provide a world-class experience for fans, and connect young girls to their idols.
"I am excited to be part of the new WPF and to join the Smash It Sports Vipers and Don DeDonatis in an effort to help provide a place for athletes to continue their softball careers through professional softball", remarked Glasco.
Glasco is being joined by three of his former Ragin' Cajuns standouts in Alissa Dalton (2018-21), Ciara Bryan (2021) and Melissa Mayeux (2020-22) - each of the last three Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year award recipients.
The summer-only appointment continues his involvement in the professional softball ranks, most recently serving as head coach of the USSSA Pride during its 2019 championship run in the NPF. Other stints include 2014 with USSSA Pride and 2017 with Scrap Yard Dawgs, also in the NPF.
The WPF's inaugural season consists of an exhibition schedule being played in five different states. The season begins on June 14 in Kansas City, Kansas and wraps up Aug. 1-6 in Viera, Florida.

In his fifth season at the helm of Louisiana Softball, Glasco molded a lineup that featured at most two upperclassmen and as many as five freshmen into championship and NCAA Tournament team. He guided Louisiana (47-13, 23-4 Sun Belt) to third consecutive Sun Belt Conference regular season and tournament championship and the program's 23rd consecutive 40-win season, culminating in extending the storied program's streak of consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (now 23 straight). The Ragin' Cajuns placed a conference-high nine players on the All-Sun Belt team, recorded a program-record .351 season batting average and generated the most home runs in Glasco's tenure (82).
