Daigle Named Sun Belt Women's Track Athlete of the Week

LAFAYETTE, La. – Louisiana Track and Field senior Sophie Daigle has been named Sun Belt Women's Track Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

At last week's season-opening Louisiana Classics, Daigle set a new program-best time in the 10k as she finished in 32:52.50. The performance vaulted the Donaldsonville, La. to the top of the nationwide leaderboard in the event.

The time was over 40 seconds faster than the previous program record set by Ashley Irwin (36:36.11) in 2015.

Since transferring from Southeastern Louisiana in the offseason, Daigle has reset the Ragin' Cajun record books as she bested previous best marks in the mile, 3k and 5k during her indoor campaign.

In February she was named Sun Belt Newcomer of the year following the conclusion of the conference indoor championships.
