Saturday matinee features exciting game themes, including Louisiana Salutes, Alumni Game and a Blackout

LAFAYETTE – Coming off a heartbreaking 51-50 defeat against Little Rock on Thursday evening, the Louisiana Women's Basketball team looks to bounce back in a big way when it takes on Arkansas State. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.

Saturday's contest, which will be the team's blackout game, is pivotal for the Ragin' Cajuns, who are clinging on to the fourth-seed in the Sun Belt Conference standings.

It was a tough game all around for Louisiana on Thursday night, battling on both ends of the floor before ultimately falling to Little Rock. Lanay Wheaton led the way with 14 points, while Makayia Hallmon and Ty'Reona Doucet each scored 10 points.

Doucet also notched her fifth consecutive double-double in the defeat after hauling in 10 rebounds. The senior from Ville Platte continues to be the team's statistical leader in scoring (12.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.1 rpg).

Louisiana's offense has continued to be consistent this season, leading the Sun Belt Conference and ranking 28th nationally and first in the Sun Belt with a 45.2 field goal percentage.

Arkansas State (10-11, 3-5 Sun Belt) was supposed to play at ULM on Thursday night, but a leak in the roof saw the game postponed. Four Red Wolves are averaging in double figures this year, with Jireh Washington leading the charge with 12.8 points per contest.

Louisiana and Arkansas State will be meeting for the 76th time, with the Red Wolves owning a 52-23 advantage in the all-time series. The Ragin' Cajuns have won the last five meetings between the two squads dating back to the 2020 season.

In addition to the blackout, Saturday's game will also be the team's annual Alumni Game and will also be Louisiana Salutes.
