Ragin' Cajuns dominate in singles, defeat Abilene Christian to extend win streak to seven matches
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The No. 41-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team stretched its winning streak to seven matches and advanced into the winner's bracket of the H-E-B Tournament of Champions with a 4-1 win over Abilene Christian on Friday, Feb. 18 at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Louisiana (8-1) moves on to face East Tennessee State (3-3) at 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon with a spot in the tournament championship match up for grabs.
In defeating ACU (2-8), the Ragin' Cajuns cruised to four consecutive wins in singles play - all in straight sets.
The Wildcats held a brief match lead after claiming the doubles point with wins on Court 1 and Court 2. Louisiana's path to victory started with quick wins from Vasil Dimitrov (6-4, 6-3) and Calin Postea (6-2, 6-2) at No. 6 and No. 5 singles, respectively.
Oriol Fillat Gimenez extended his personal winning streak to six games by outlasting Savan Chhabra 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3 singles, stretching the Ragin' Cajuns lead to 3-1. Moments later Kacper Dworak clinched the match at No. 4 singles, giving Louisiana its second win over Abilene Christian in the spring 2022 dual match season.
