No. 41 Louisiana Carries Momentum Into H-E-B Tournament of Champions

Six-match winning streak has Ragin' Cajuns newly ranked entering the weekend
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The No. 41-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Tennis team seeks to continue its current trend of success from Friday-Saturday, Feb. 18-19 during the three-match H-E-B Tournament of Champions event at the Thomas J. Henry Tennis Center in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Louisiana (7-1) carries a six-match winning streak into the tournament. The last four triumphs have all occurred on the road, including quality wins over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Rice in Houston, Feb. 5-6, plus a Power 5 triumph over Texas Tech last Friday (Feb. 11).

The Ragin' Cajuns are now ranked No. 41 in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Division I Men's National Rankings on the strength of the solid performances thus far in February. It's the program's highest ranking since reaching No. 47 back in 2012.

Play in the H-E-B Tournament of Champions for No. 41 Louisiana is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Friday vs. Abilene Christian (2-7). The team's second match on Friday will be at 2:30 p.m. against either homestanding Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-3) or East Tennessee State (2-3).

On Saturday morning, bracket play concludes with matchups determined by Friday's second round results. For a full look at the bracket, click here.

The tournament field also includes UTSA, New Mexico State, Troy and DePaul.

ABOUT LOUISIANA
The Ragin' Cajuns' strong start under first-year head coach Luc Godin has been a by-product of strong singles play, with the team's combined 28-13 mark led by reigning Sun Belt Player of the Week Oriol Fillat Gimenez's 6-1 showing at the No. 3 position, and the consistent performance of No. 1 doubles tandem Karlo Kajin and Alejandro Sanchez Gonzalez and No. 2 doubles tandem Fillat Gimenez and Vasil Dimitrov combining to produce a 12-3 record.

Sanchez Gonzalez has also shined in singles play posting a solid 5-2 record at the No. 2 position and Calin Postea, who is tied with Fillat Gimenez for the longest active win streak at five straight, is coming off back-to-back match-clinchers (Texas Tech, NM State) for Louisiana last weekend.

Louisiana has won the doubles point in four of the last five matches. The pairing of Fillat Gimenez and Dimitrov has produced a 7-1 mark at the No. 2 position, coming away victorious in five straight matches.

FAMILIAR FOES
It'll be a rematch in the first round for Louisiana. The Ragin' Cajuns faced off with Abilene Christian in the season opener back on Jan. 14 in Waco, Texas, capturing a 6-1 decision.

Four of the five singles victories picked up over ACU came in straight sets and the match result was decided after Dimitrov's win at No. 6 singles opened a 4-0 edge over the Wildcats.
