FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- Dawn of a New Season: Louisiana, picked third in the Sun Belt preseason poll, is coming off a third straight winning season and trip to at least the SBC Tournament semifinals for the fifth time since 2017. Returning starters include preseason All-Sun Belt pick Lanay Wheaton, Destiny Rice and Tamera Johnson.
- Ready for the Challenge: Beginning Monday with Houston, the Ragin' Cajuns are starting the season with four straight opponents coming off of postseason appearances. The Cougars were WNIT participants in 2021-22, while the following three opponents – Texas, Colorado, Jackson State – all earned spots in the NCAA Tournament.
- Growing the Game: The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Department of Athletics is introducing free admission to Women's Basketball games at the Cajundome beginning with the 2022-23 season. Louisiana looks to enhance fan support and experience for students and families with both the new admission initiative and the addition of interactive in-game events, on-court promotions, and season-long themes.
- Backcourt Duo Back to Work: Back to guide the offense is Destiny Rice, who led the team with 62 assists in 2021-22, and Lanay Wheaton who was the team's second-leading scorer (11.4 ppg) and a 44-percent shooter.
- Our Calling Card: Expect defense to continue to be the name of game for Garry Brodhead's Ragin' Cajuns. In 2021-22, the team ranked first in the Sun Belt Conference and 19th nationally in field goal percentage defense (35.7).
