Ragin’ Cajuns and Pilots reconvene for morning hoops after facing off in the 2021 event

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Women's Basketball team opens a week-long stretch at home in the Cajundome on Tuesday, November 29 hosting the program's annual Education Game set for 11:00 a.m. against LSU-Shreveport.

The Ragin' Cajuns are welcoming local area elementary, middle school, and high school classes for the once-a-season field trip event. Those in attendance will receive a t-shirt, activity pack, and a discounted meal deal for $8 that includes a hot dog, fries, and drink.

Admission to the game – and all home games throughout the entire season – is free of charge for all and open to the public.

Tuesday morning's outing will mark the ninth edition of the program's annual Education Game. The Ragin' Cajuns (3-4) own a 4-4 overall record in the contest. It's the second straight year that LSU-Shreveport (5-2) provides the opposition, the two teams meeting in the 2021 event with Louisiana posting a 90-45 win.

The game will be streamed live on ESPN Plus. Fans can also listen on 103.3 FM The Goat and 1420 AM in the Acadiana region and worldwide on the Varsity Network.

This week's homestand, which also includes a Saturday, December 3 matchup with Louisiana Christian, is a welcomed change of pace for Louisiana which has played five of its first seven games of the young season on the road.

The Ragin' Cajuns enter the LSU-S matchup a few short days removed from completing a two-game sweep of the UNT Fall Feast in Denton, Texas after a strong defensive showing on Sunday (Nov. 27) resulted in a 54-38 win over Abilene Christian. The win streak started with a fourth-quarter comeback on Friday (Nov. 25) against North Texas, completed by Caira Wren's game-winning putback with 13 seconds remaining.

Louisiana seeks to build upon the success found in Denton that included Tamera Johnson posting back-to-back double-doubles and Wren and Sherry Porter turning in season-high scoring performances.

Johnson leads the Ragin' Cajuns averaging 11.0 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for the season. Other top scorers include Lanay Wheaton (7.6) and Nubia Benedith (6.3) while Wren tops the squad with 19 offensive rebounds and averages 4.7 boards per game.

The Pilots are in the midst of an exhibition game break in their season schedule, having last played a countable contest back on November 11. LSU-S fell 77-36 to Southern in its first exhibition game back on November 21 in Baton Rouge.

The Pilots averaged 68.6 points, with Tahjea Smith and Destanee Roblow averaging 10 and 10.3 points respectively, in their first six regular season games. They are receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 Coaches' Poll.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
  1. Inspiring the Next Generation: Holding the Education game for the ninth consecutive season, Louisiana Women's Basketball is providing a great opportunity for students in the Acadiana region to experience college athletics and get a unique look at higher education.
  2. Busy at Work: Tuesday's game marks the eighth game in the month of November for Louisiana, over a span of 22 days, since opening the season November 7 (vs. Houston).
  3. Double-Double, Tamera's Trouble: Tamera Johnson continues to pose problems for opposing teams both offensively and defensively. She turned in a pair of double-doubles, averaging 14.5 points and 11 rebounds, in leading Louisiana's two-game sweep of the UNT Fall Feast. Johnson tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds vs. North Texas and followed up with game-highs of 17 points and 11 rebounds vs. Abilene Christian.
  4. Breakthrough Moment: Sherry Porter shot an eye-popping 5-of-6 from three-point range for a 15-point outing on Sunday vs. Abilene Christian. She netted her season-high in points, besting the 11 vs. Houston in the season opener, and set a new career-high total for triples.
  5. Taking it Inside: In a newly developing trend, the Ragin' Cajuns held a commanding 72-38 edge on points in the paint at the UNT Fall Feast. The inside scoring surge proved monumental in the 60-59 win over North Texas, with Louisiana outscoring the Mean Green 40-20 in the paint.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
