FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- D-Up: Louisiana held Houston to 23-percent shooting (14-of-60) in Monday night's season-opening contest. The Ragin' Cajuns held the Cougars below 30 percent both halves.
- Our Calling Card: Monday's defensive stronghold on Houston was nothing new for Garry Brodhead's Ragin' Cajuns. In 2021-22, the team ranked first in the Sun Belt Conference and 19th nationally in field goal percentage defense (35.7).
- Challenge Accepted: Starting Monday with Houston, the Ragin' Cajuns first four opponents of the season are all coming off of postseason appearances. The Cougars were WNIT participants in 2021-22, while the following three opponents – Texas, Colorado, Jackson State – all earned spots in the NCAA Tournament.
- Stealing the Show: Sophomore forward Tamera Johnson posted an opening night double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds vs. Houston. After UH drew a 10-all tie with two minutes remaining in the first quarter, Johnson delivered a personal 11-point run capped off by a triple at 8:33 of the second quarter to put the Ragin' Cajuns up double figures through midway in the fourth quarter.
- Meet Sherry: In her Ragin' Cajuns debut, WKU transfer Sherry Porter delivered a huge second half as she scored 11 points, was 4-for-4 at the free throw line and made a clutch three-pointer in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 46-35 with just over five minutes left to play.
