Daigle Finishes Second To Lead Ragin' Cajuns at SBC Meet

Louisiana posts best finish in men's, women's races since 2017

FOLEY, Ala. – Sophie Daigle posted the best individual finish by a Ragin' Cajuns women's runner in 19 years and helped guide Louisiana to its best finish since 2017 at the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Championships on Friday at the Graham Creek Nature Preserve.
 
Louisiana placed fifth overall in the men's 8K race with 139 points with the women's team finishing ninth on the 5K course with 220 points. Both performances marked the highest finish for both squads since both teams finished fifth overall at the 2017 Championships.
 
Daigle clocked a time of 16.36.2 to finish second overall for Louisiana, joining Natalie Gillis (2003) in earning the highest individual by a Ragin' Cajuns runner at the SBC Championships.
 
Haley Salsbury placed 45th overall for Louisiana (18:54.9) with Brooke Spalitta placing 51st overall at 19:08.6. Senior Rosalie Michot posted a time of 19:30.7 to finish 60th overall for the Ragin' Cajuns with Caroline Spalitta placing 62nd with a time of 19:32.6.
 
Freshman Kamryn Williams placed 69th overall in her inaugural SBC event (20:04.7) with Meredith Hebert (20:36.0) finishing 77th.
 
Braden Scalisi led Louisiana on the men's side as he finished 25th overall and posting a time of 25:47.8. John Walker McDonald was 27th overall for the Ragin' Cajuns (25:55.9) with Samuel Avants finishing 28th (26:02.6), Baptiste Depril-Dupre 29th (26:04.5) and Peyton Chaisson 30th (26:05.1).
 
Ty Frazier covered the course in 26:33.1 to finish 34th overall for Louisiana and Jacob Marcinkus placing 47th overall in 27:22.7.
