Ragin’ Cajuns carrying newfound success after last week’s sweep of Old Dominion
MONROE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team closes out October within the state's borders, taking a road trip north to Monroe for a two-match Sun Belt series with ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum from Friday-Saturday, October 28-29.

The Ragin' Cajuns (11-8, 5-5 Sun Belt) and Warhawks (7-18, 0-10 Sun Belt) square off Friday night at 6:00 p.m., then turn around to complete the SBC series Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. Both matches are set to air live on ESPN Plus.

Louisiana is coming off a key two-match sweep of Old Dominion last weekend at Earl K. Long Gym which kicked off the second half of Sun Belt play, snapped a four-match losing streak and brought the squad's conference record back to even.

The Ragin' Cajuns enter the ULM series just one win away from clinching a bye on the opening day of the SBC Tournament (Nov. 16).

 NEW FACES
- Kristi Gray welcomed five newcomers to the program in the offseason. Transfers Mya Wilson (Georgia Southern), Paige Guidry (Nicholls), Celeste Darling (Houston) and Paola Garcia (UNLV), plus incoming freshman Lauryn Hill (Frisco, Texas/Liberty HS) as the newest members of the squad.
- Wilson hit .220-plus and accumulated at least 150 kills and 50 blocks each season at Georgia Southern (2019-21). Darling, who returns to Louisiana after competing as a freshman with the Ragin' Cajuns in 2019, helped lead Houston to the American Athletic Conference West Division title in the 2020-21 season and a 20-win season the following fall campaign.

PRESEASON PRAISE
Kelsey Bennett and Coco Gillett, both All-Sun Belt Conference selections in 2021, represented Louisiana on the 2022 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Volleyball team.

Louisiana wraps up its home schedule hosting Southern Miss at Earl K. Long Gym from Thursday-Friday, November 3-4. Both outings of the two-match Sun Belt Conference series are scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns home volleyball matches is free.

The Ragin' Cajuns will hold their Senior Night ceremony on Friday (Nov. 3), honoring the team's lone senior, Kelsey Bennett, prior to first serve.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW
- Momentum Rising: Louisiana exited the Old Dominion series carrying a streak of six consecutive sets won. The Ragin' Cajuns averaged 12.7 kills per set, hit. 287 and scored 22 aces (3.1/set) in the ODU sweep.
- Got Their Number: Louisiana owns an eight-match win streak over ULM and has won the last 17 sets contested with the Warhawks dating back to 2020.
- Strength in Numbers: It's been a group effort for Louisiana in SBC play with eight different players having scored at least 30 kills (ranging from 32 to 72).
- Beast Mode Activated: Coco Gillett sparked the ODU sweep, totaling team-leading totals of 23 kills and 10 aces. In the series opener, Gillett found the floor for a season-high 18 kills and served up a career-high eight aces.
- Party of Five: Kara Barnes became the fifth (5th) Ragin' Cajun with 500 career kills during the ODU series. She generated 19 kills off just 36 swings and a .472 hitting percentage in the sweep of the Monarchs. The rest of the 500-plus career kills group includes: Kelsey Bennett, Coco Gillett, Celeste Darling and Mya Wilson.
