Louisiana Meets Old Dominion on Dig Pink Weekend at Earl K. Long Gym

LAFAYETTE – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Volleyball team has its first cross-divisional matchup of the 2022 season when Sun Belt Conference East foe Old Dominion makes its way to Earl K. Long Gym for a two-match series from Thursday-Friday, October 20-21.

First serve both nights between Louisiana (9-8, 3-5 Sun Belt) and ODU (8-11, 3-3 Sun Belt) is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

The Ragin' Cajuns are celebrating Dig Pink Weekend with a Pink Out on Thursday (Oct. 20) and Student Organization Night on Friday (Oct. 21).

Admission to all Ragin' Cajuns home volleyball matches is free. Fans should park in the designated ParkMobile parking lots which can be found on the Volleyball Match Day Parking page.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW

Nice to Meet You: The two-match series with ODU marks the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Monarchs are relatively new on the collegiate volleyball scene, having launched their program in the 2020-21 season and competing in the traditional fall setting for the first time last year.
The Stretch Run Begins: The ODU series starts the second half of the Sun Belt Conference schedule as teams begin the battle for seeding in the SBC Tournament set for mid-November in Foley, Alabama (Nov. 16-20).
All Hands on Deck: It's been a group effort for Louisiana in SBC play with seven different players having scored at least 30 kills (ranging from 33 to 59).
Change of Fortune: Louisiana seeks to halt a four-match losing streak. The squad is coming off back-to-back series sweeps at the hands of co-SBC West leaders Texas State and South Alabama.
Proven Producers: Louisiana has four players with 500-plus career kills: Kelsey Bennett, Coco Gillett, Celeste Darling and Mya Wilson.

NEW FACES
- Kristi Gray welcomed five newcomers to the program in the offseason. Transfers Mya Wilson (Georgia Southern), Paige Guidry (Nicholls), Celeste Darling (Houston) and Paola Garcia (UNLV), plus incoming freshman Lauryn Hill (Frisco, Texas/Liberty HS) as the newest members of the squad.
- Wilson hit .220-plus and accumulated at least 150 kills and 50 blocks each season at Georgia Southern (2019-21). Darling, who returns to Louisiana after competing as a freshman with the Ragin' Cajuns in 2019, helped lead Houston to the American Athletic Conference West Division title in the 2020-21 season and a 20-win season the following fall campaign.

PRESEASON PRAISE
Kelsey Bennett and Coco Gillett, both All-Sun Belt Conference selections in 2021, represented Louisiana on the 2022 Preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Volleyball team.

UP NEXT FOR LOUISIANA
Louisiana closes out the month of October within the state's borders, making a road trip north by traveling to Monroe for a two-match Sun Belt Conference series with ULM at Fant-Ewing Coliseum from Friday-Saturday, October 28-29.

The Ragin' Cajuns and Warhawks are scheduled to meet at 6:00 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 28) and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 29). Live video coverage of both matches is available on ESPN+.
