Louisiana Men's Basketball Closes Conference Homestand against Georgia Southern

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Basketball will wrap up its four-game homestand at 7 p.m. Saturday against Georgia State. The contest will be available to be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
Louisiana is looking to bounce back from a narrow 68-64 loss to Georgia State on Thursday.
 
Kentrell Garnett led the way with a career-high 17 points against the Panthers. The Carencro La. native is averaging 8.3 points and 1.5 rebounds this season. A former walk-on, Garnett was awarded a scholarship on Jan. 11 and has started 11 games this season.
 
Sophomore forward Jordan Brown returned to the lineup on Thursday after a onegame absence and chipped in 12 points and six rebounds.
 
With 38 rebounds against Georgia State, the Ragin' Cajuns rank second in the Sun Belt with 39.7 boards per game.
 
Georgia Southern enters the weekend bout with a 9-9 overall record and is 2-5 in conference play following a victory over ULM on Thursday. The Eagles are led by senior guard Elijah McCadden who is averaging a team-high 11.8 points per game this season.
 
Saturday's game will feature nationally-renowned halftime act Red Panda. Fans are encouraged to stay in their seats as the teams exit the floor to view the entertainment.
 
SERIES NOTES
The weekend contest will mark the 16th meeting between the two programs. Louisiana trails the all-time series 7-8.
 
NATIONAL NAME
On Jan. 12, Brown was named to the Lou Henson Award Midseason Watch List that honors the country's top mid-major player.
 
LOUISIANA LEGACY
Louisiana's 2021-22 roster features two second-generation talents in Julien and Brown. Julien's father Wayne was with the program from 1976-81 and was a member of 1977 Southland Conference championship team.
 
Dion Brown lettered for the Ragin' Cajuns from 1980-84 and finished his career as one of the top scorers and rebounders in school history. Brown, a 1984 graduate of UL, earned All-Southland Conference honors in 1982 and was a two-time All-Louisiana selection.
 
He finished his career with 1,412 points and 926 rebounds (then second in school history) and helped then-USL to the championship of the 1982 Great Alaskan Shootout where he was named to the All-Tournament team.
