Louisiana Draws Georgia State to Open SBC Championship Tournament

Cajuns and Panthers collide in win-or-go-home showdown at Pensacola Bay Center
PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Men's Basketball team is set to open play in the 2026 Visit Pensacola Sun Belt Men's Basketball Championship tournament presented by Air Force Reserve on Tuesday, March 3 when it faces Georgia State in the event's opening round.
No. 12 seed Louisiana (10-21, 7-11 SBC) meets No. 13 seed Georgia State (10-21, 7-11 SBC) at 5:00 p.m. inside the Pensacola Bay Center.
Fans can watch the game live on ESPN+ and listen on the Ragin' Cajuns Radio Network (KPEL 96.5 FM and the Varsity Network) with commentary from Dawson Eiserloh. Live statistics will be available at CajunStats.StatBroadcast.com.
Louisiana claimed the lone regular-season meeting between the teams, earning an 82-72 victory on January 29 at the Cajundome. De'Vion Lavergne poured in a career-high 23 points as the Ragin' Cajuns withstood a second-half surge that sent Georgia State repeatedly to the free-throw line.
The Ragin' Cajuns seized control early in that matchup, blistering the nets in the opening half. UL shot 16-of-28 from the field before intermission, including 7-of-12 from beyond the 3-point arc, to build a commanding 46-28 halftime lead.
The winner of Tuesday's UL-GSU contest advances to the second round to meet No. 9 seed James Madison (17-14, 9-9 SBC) on Wednesday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m.
The SBC Championship tournament runs Tuesday-Monday, March 3-9, featuring all 14 conference institutions competing in a single-elimination format for the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It marks the sixth consecutive season the league's postseason tournament is held in Pensacola.
