Louisiana Track & Field Opens Action at NCAA East Preliminary

Seven athletes in 21-member contingent to compete on first day
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team opens competition on Wednesday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round with seven athletes seeing action on the first day of the four-day meet at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Action will begin for Louisiana with competition in both the men's long jump and men's pole vault at 2 p.m. (CT) with four Ragin' Cajuns slated to compete in running events beginning at 5 p.m. (CT).
John Joseph and Obdarius Ware will each compete on the opening day in the men's long jump for Louisiana with Cole Courtois and Chandler Mixon competing in the men's pole vault. The Ragin' Cajuns close out the day beginning with Yves Cherubin in the men's 110-meter hurdles at 5 p.m. (CT), followed by Brock Appiah competing in the first of two events on the day – the men's 100-meter dash at 6.
Nathan Fergusson will compete in the first round of the men's 400-meter hurdles at 7:20 p.m. (CT) with Appiah closing out the opening day for Louisiana in the first round of the men's 200-meter dash at 7:45.

Athletes in 14 events along with Louisiana's men's and women's 4x100-meter relay teams will compete. A pair of Ragin' Cajuns –Appiah and women's sprinter Kiana Foster – will each compete in three events during the four-day meet with the duo set to race in the 100-meter dash, the 200-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay.
Serenity Rogers (women's 100-meter hurdles/4x100 meter relay) and Ta'La Spates (women's 100-meters/4x100-meter relay), Joseph (men's long jump/triple jump) and Ware (men's long jump/4x100-meter relay) are set to compete in a pair of events for Louisiana.
The NCAA East Preliminary is one of two opening round competitions of the NCAA Track and Field Championships with the West Preliminary happening simultaneously in College Station, Texas.
The top 12 performers in each event and top six relay teams from each Preliminary meet will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on June 9-12 in Eugene, Ore.
