Mixon Leads in Decathlon at Crimson Tide Invitational

Second-day action begins Friday at 10 a.m.
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Chandler Mixon set personal-bests in four of five events and claimed the first-day lead in the men's decathlon to lead the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Track and Field team during the opening day of the Crimson Tide Invitational on Thursday at Sam Bailey Track and Field Stadium.
Juliette Smith completed the first day of the women's heptathlon in eighth place while freshman Ivana Cecchetti was 15th in the standings.
Action continues on Friday beginning at 10 a.m. with the completion of the decathlon before the final four events in the heptathlon begins at noon. Field events will begin at 4 p.m., with the women's hammer throw with the first running events (women's 1,500-meter run) set for 8 p.m.
Live results are available at RaginCajuns.com with a live video stream (beginning on Friday at noon) available at SEC Network Plus and the ESPN+ app. Louisiana is competing in the three-day event with host Alabama plus Central Arkansas, Georgia Tech, Indiana State, Kennesaw State, LSU, Memphis, Mississippi State, Samford, South Alabama, Southern Mississippi, Troy, Tulane and UAB.
Mixon, who claimed first-place honors in the men's 100-meter dash, set PR's in the 100 meters (10.80), long jump (22-9), shot put (40-4 ¾) and high jump (6-1 ½) to finish with 3,798 points and a 19-point advantage over Alabama's Jacob Spotswood. Mixon built a lead through the first three events before claiming the lead after clocking a time of 50.70 and finishing third overall in the 400-meters.
Smith recorded 3,032 points in her first four events in the heptathlon for Louisiana, beginning with a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.19). Smith finished third overall in the shot put for the Ragin' Cajuns (40-2) before clocking a time of 25.67 in the 200-meters to finish fifth in the event.
Cecchetti, competing in her first heptathlon at the collegiate level, posted a time of 15.62 in the 100-meter hurdles and 27.09 in the 200-meters while posting marks of 4-11 ¾ in the high jump and 25-0 ½ in the shot put.
