Ragin’ Cajuns face Buffs for second time in program’s first-ever appearance in the tournament

MEMPHIS – Louisiana's historic 50th Season continues on Friday, March 19, when the Ragin' Cajuns open play in the Women's National Invitation Tournament (WNIT) against Colorado. Tip-off from My Town Movers Fieldhouse is set for 2 p.m.

Making its first-ever appearance in the WNIT, the program is playing in its first postseason tournament since the 2015-16 season when last competed in the WBI. The Cajuns enter the 2021 edition of the WNIT with an 8-1 mark in the postseason play, with their lone loss coming in their only NCAA Tournament appearance in 2007.

Friday's contest will be the second meeting between the two programs, with Colorado leading the all-time series, 1-0. The first meeting came on Dec. 4, 1993, in Nacogdoches, Texas, a game that the Buffaloes won, 73-50.

Louisiana (16-6, 13-1 Sun Belt) will be led into the tournament by three Sun Belt All-Conference performers, paced by First Team selection and Defensive Player of the Year, Ty'Reona Doucet. Doucet ranks third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.7 points per game, while leading the way in total rebounds (154) and blocks (33).

Junior Brandi Williams, who picked up Second Team All-Conference honors, leads the team in scoring by providing 12.0 points per contest, while Third Team All-Sun Belt honoree Skyler Goodwin leads the team in minutes played and ranks second on the team in scoring (11.0 ppg) to round out the trio of double-figure scorers.

The Ragin' Cajuns enter the title game as one of the top defenses in the country, holding opponents to just 57.6 points per contest. That mark is good for third in the Sun Belt and 36th nationally.

Colorado (10-10, 8-8 Pac 12) enters the WNIT coming off a heartbreaking loss in its conference tournament to Washington, but boasts multiple impressive victories over big names, including a 77-72 overtime triumph over No. 1 Stanford.

Senior Mya Hollingshed leads the way for the Buffaloes, averaging 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. She is joined in double figures by Frida Formann (11.8 ppg) and Jaylyn Sherrod (10.4 ppg).

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, tickets will not be available to the general public for the tournament and will be limited to player pass list only. Fans who cannot attend the event can livestream all of the action live on FloHoops.
