Louisiana aiming to extend winning streak to four games on Wednesday night
LAFAYETTE – Coming off a successful two-game road trip, Louisiana Women's Basketball returns to the CAJUNDOME to take on the Gold Nuggets of Xavier (La.) on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Ragin' Cajuns currently boast a 3-1 record over teams from Louisiana after wins at Southeastern Louisiana and McNeese. The team owns a 50-14 record against in-state opposition in the Garry Brodhead era.
Makayia Hallmon and Ty'Reona Doucet led the team to a 10-point victory on Sunday in Lake Charles with 14 points apiece, with Destiny Rice and Lanay Wheaton contributing 13 points and 11 points, respectfully. Hallmon also led the team with a career-high five assists.
Rice has been the team's most consistent player through six games, leading the way with 10.3 points per game and pacing the team with 15 assists. Hallmon is right on her heels with 10.0 point per contest and 14 assists on the season.
Xavier (La.) (5-3) snapped a three-game skid in its last outing, defeating Southeastern Baptist by a score of 84-56. Five members of the team scored in double figures, with Nia Bishop leading the way with 14 points.
Bishop leads the team in scoring through eight games with 14.1 points per contest, while Abryhia Irons is contributing 7.5 points and a team-best 6.5 rebounds.
Louisiana and Xavier (La.) will be meeting for the eighth time when they tipoff on Wednesday, with the Ragin' Cajuns leading the all-time series, 5-2. The Cajuns have won the last five games, including all four meetings in the Brodhead era.
