Louisiana Golf Adds Malan Potgieter To 2022-23 Roster

LAFAYETTE – Malan Potgieter, one of the top-ranked South African junior golfers, signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team beginning in the 2022-23 season, announced on Friday by head coach Theo Sliman.

Potgieter, a 6-foot-1 product and current No. 3-ranked junior golfer in South Africa, posted four Eastern Province amateur victories in 2021 while ranking among the top 50 amateurs nationally.

"We are extremely excited to announce the addition of Malan to our Ragin' Cajun family" said Sliman. "From the initial phone call and meeting with Malan, we felt very comfortable and confident that Malan had the characteristics of exactly what we look for in a Ragin' Cajun.

"He is a great student who values his education, a fierce competitor, and a very humble young man. I have completely enjoyed getting to know Malan and his family throughout the recruiting process and look forward to having him on campus in August."

Potgieter, who began playing competitive golf at age 8, represented South Africa at the 2019 Reply U/16 Italian International Championship. He finished third overall at the Nomads Dimension Data U-19 Junior Open and was tied for ninth overall in match play at the 2021 South African Boys U-19 Championship.

"I am excited to become a Ragin' Cajun and start my college golf career," Potgieter said. "I'm looking forward to learning from Coach Sliman and my teammates on and off the golf course. It will be an honor to play for the Ragin' Cajuns and become part of the Louisiana Golf family."
