LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Men's Basketball will take the floor for the first time in the 2021-22 season when it tips off against Alabama in a charity exhibition game 2 p.m. Sunday at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Proceeds from the contest will benefit the United Way of West Alabama.
Â
The teams will play a full 40-minute regulation competition with no television or radio broadcast. Tickets to the game can be purchased here.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns enter head coach Bob Marlin's 12th season at the helm following a 17-9 result a year ago. Louisiana was 10-7 against Sun Belt opponents and earned a trip to the semifinals of the conference tournament.
Â
The Ragin' Cajuns return nine letter winners and three starters from last year's team highlighted by senior Dou Gueye and reigning Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year Theo Akwuba.
Â
The program brought in a highly-touted newcomer class keyed by a pair of Lafayette natives – Greg Williams, Jr. (St. John's) and Jalen Dalcourt (San Jose State). Arizona transfer Jordan Brown – a consensus prep All-American and Ragin' Cajun's legacy – and Creighton transfer Antwann Jones.
Â
On Thursday, Akwuba was named to the Sun Belt preseason first-team while Brown earned third-team recognition
Â
Louisiana also inked a pair of talented freshmen who have Lafayette roots in Joe Charles (Carencro) and Carter Domingue (St. Thomas More).
Â
The programs have previously squared off four times during the regular season with Alabama winning each of the meetings. Last season, the Crimson Tide advanced to the Sweet 16 before falling to Final Four participant UCLA.
