Louisiana tied for ninth with No. 28 Indiana, Memphis; final round starts at 7:30 a.m. CT
VERO BEACH, Fla. – Charlie Flynn tied his career-low on the golf course posting a 6-under-par 66 in the opening round and the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Golf team finished in a tie for ninth-place after the opening day of the Quail Valley Intercollegiate on Sunday at Quail Valley Golf Club.
The final 18 holes of the 54-hole event will begin on Monday with a 7:30 a.m., CT shotgun start. Louisiana will be paired with No. 28-ranked Indiana, Memphis and Boston College in the final round with live results available at GolfStat.com.
Louisiana, which posted consecutive team scores of 4-under-par 284, finished the first 36 holes tied with IU and Memphis in the 16-team field that features six teams ranked in the GolfStat Top 50. No. 11-ranked Kansas posted rounds of 277 and 271 to claim the first-day lead with Toledo (557), No. 31 Kent State (558), No. 10 South Florida (560) and Nebraska (561) rounding out the top five.
Starting at No. 15, Flynn was 1-over-par through his first four holes in the morning session before catching fire on the front nine. Back-to-back birdies at No. 2 and 3 moved him below par before recording another birdie at No. 6 and his first of two eagles on the day on the par-5, 575-yard No. 7.
Flynn added his second eagle of the round on the par-5, 565-yard No. 10 before capping his day with a birdie at No. 14 and matching his career-low round that was previously set at the 2019 Sun Belt Conference Championships.
The junior posted a 1-under 71 in the second round and finished the day in a tie for sixth placae at 7-under 137 and three strokes off the overall lead shared by four golfers.
Peter Hinnant scorched the front nine in the opening round with a 6-under 30 enroute to a 2-under 70. Hinnant returned in the afternoon session to shoot a bogey-free, 3-under 69 to finish tied for 12th overall at 5-under 139.
Hudson Dubinski carded rounds of 73 and 70 to finish at 1-under 143 through the opening 36 holes with Eli Ortego posting rounds of 75 and 74 to finish at 5-over 149.
