Ragin’ Cajuns face Houston Baptist in pair of matches at Earl K. Long Gym

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Volleyball helps usher in the 2020-21 athletics season over Labor Day Weekend, hosting Houston Baptist in the annual Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic at Earl K. Long Gym.
 
The Ragin' Cajuns and Huskies meet on Friday, Sept. 4 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 5 at 12 p.m. Louisiana will recognize its senior class following the completion of Friday's contest.
 
Louisiana and HBU are among the select few programs kicking off the NCAA Division I Volleyball season this weekend. Also competing are Central Arkansas, Stephen F. Austin and Texas State, in Nacogdoches, Texas.

ATTENDANCE POLICY
Due to facility capacity constraints, Louisiana Volleyball's attendance policy for 2020 is that home matches will not be open to the general public.
 
Home and visiting teams will operate pass lists for admittance into Earl K. Long Gym, as spacing and safety protocols ahead of each event will allow.
 
RALLY POINTS
  • Friday's match is part of a doubleheader with Ragin' Cajuns Soccer which marks the first athletics competitions on campus for the 2020-21 season.
  • Louisiana and Houston Baptist have competed in exhibition contests the previous two seasons. The Ragin' Cajuns claimed both matchups, winning all five sets at E.K. Long Gym in 2018 and capturing three-of-five last season in Houston.
  • Adding in regular season matchups in 2016 and 2017, the Ragin' Cajuns and Huskies are set to meet on the court for the fifth consecutive season.
  • The weekend set with HBU jumpstarts a string of six consecutive matches at home for the Ragin' Cajuns to start off the 2020 season.
  • Highlighting the list of returners for Louisiana is All-Sun Belt performers Hali Wisnoskie and Avery Breaux as well as 2019 Sun Belt Newcomer of the Year Hannah Ramirez.

5: The Ragin' Cajuns return five key starters from last season's squad which ended the 2019 regular season 9-1 leading to a runner-up finish in the Sun Belt West division.

- The weekend set marks the first of six matches Houston Baptist is slated to compete in this fall, concluding on Sept. 19 at Texas State. The Southland Conference postponed conference matches until Spring 2021.
- The Huskies (17-15, 9-7 SLC in 2019) are coming off a sixth-place finish in the Southland Conference and return their leading point producers in Mikayla Vivens (3.37 kills/set) and Kelly Colwell (2.93 kills/set)
- Two-time All-Southland selection Mikayla Vivens generated 300-plus kills each of the previous two seasons.
