Incoming freshman Jake Marler claims first-day lead with 4-under 68

NEW ORLEANS – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns golfer Cole Kendrick posted a 2-under-par 70 to finish in a seventh-place tie while returning players Matt Weber and Charlie Flynn each finished in the top-30 overall after the opening round of the 101st Louisiana Amateur Championships on Thursday at the Bayou Oaks at City Park South Course.
 
Kendrick finished the opening round of the 72-hole event two strokes behind first-round leader and incoming Ragin' Cajuns freshman Jake Marler.
 
Weber finished as one of 21 golfers to shoot below par in the opening round after his 1-under 71 was good for a 12-place tie. Flynn finished in a tie for 29th after carding a 1-over 73.
 
Marler, who finished third overall at the 2019 LGA Junior Amateur Championship, paced the 142-player field with a 4-under 68 to finish one stroke ahead of a pack of five golfers which included former Ragin' Cajuns letterwinner Andrew Noto (2008-12).
 
Former Ragin' Cajuns Seth Dufrene (2007-10) and Colin Troxler (2017-19) each fired rounds of 2-over 74 with Robbie Trahan (1995-98) posting a 4-over 76 and Jeff Lorio (1997-98) an 8-over 80.
