Louisiana Drops Midweek Game to Northwestern State, 10-8

LAFAYETTE - After falling behind 9-3 in the fourth inning, the Louisiana Baseball team stormed back to bring the game within a run, but ultimately fell, 10-8, against Northwestern State at M.L. 'Tigue' Moore Field at Russo Park on Wednesday night.
The Ragin' Cajuns (2-7) were the first to strike in tonight's game with Hayden Cantrelle scoring on an error. Louisiana then added to its lead in the third when Connor Kimple smacked an RBI single to right-center and Zeff Hoffpauir brought in a run with a sac fly which made the game, 3-1. Kimple had his best day as a Ragin' Cajun going 3-for-5 on the day.
Northwestern State (7-1) matched whatever the Cajuns threw at them putting up five runs in the top of the fourth inning.
Brandon Talley, tonight's starter, worked into the fourth inning, but was charged with three earned runs in the frame. Jacob Schultz replaced Talley and gave up a home run to Northwestern State's Peyton Davis which gave the Demons a 6-3 lead. Schultz was tagged with tonight's loss.
The Demons added three more runs in the fifth inning, but Louisiana did not quit and matched NSU's three runs thanks to pinch-hit RBI singles from Nick Hagedorn and Brennan Breaux.
The Ragin' Cajuns got within one run in the seventh frame when Ben Fitzgerald delivered a bases loaded single which scored Jonathan Windham and Justin Greene and made the game, 9-8.
The Demons added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning and Louisiana couldn't generated the offense to win or tie the game falling, 10-8.
Louisiana welcomes Sam Houston State to Russo Park this weekend with first pitch starting at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 28.
