Ragin’ Cajuns are one of four programs to have at least two players named on the preseason teams
LAFAYETTE – Senior Ty'Reona Doucet and junior Brandi Williams have been named to Sun Belt Preseason All-Conference Teams ahead of the 2020-21 women's basketball season, the league office announced on Wednesday afternoon.
Doucet was one of five players tabbed on the First Team, while Williams earned a spot on the league's Third Team. Louisiana joins South Alabama, Troy and UT Arlington as the only programs in the league to have at least two players tabbed on the preseason teams.
A native of Ville Platte, La., Doucet finished the season as the Ragin' Cajuns' leading scorer (12.6 ppg) and rebounder (7.6 rpg). Over the course of the season, she led the team in scoring 12 times and rebounding 16 times.
She posted four double-doubles during her junior campaign, her last coming on Jan. 25 against in-state foe ULM when she scored 17 points and hauled in 11 boards.
Doucet was also a dominant shot blocker, swatting 39 balls in the regular season. Her block total tied her for seventh on the school's single season blocks list, while her 80 career blocks is tied for third in program history.
Williams ranked second on the team in scoring average (11.7 ppg) in her 29 appearances, while leading the team in 3-pointers made (41), free throws made (107) and average minutes played (30.8).
The 2018-19 Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, Williams led the team in scoring nine times and posted 18 games with 10 or more points.
The CAJUNDOME will operate at a significantly reduced capacity for the 2020-21 season (unless state policy changes during the season). This will allow for fans and University students to be accommodated this season.
Should disruptions or modifications to the 2020-21 season occur due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Athletics will quickly communicate the adjustments through its social media channels and RaginCajuns.com. Additionally, the department will communicate any changes to specific entry and attendance protocols for home games.
To celebrate the program's 50th season, fans can purchase season tickets at the $50 price point season tickets by visiting RaginCajuns.com/WBBTix and will also be able to enjoy in honor of the special season.
