Ragin’ Cajuns looking to snap a three-game losing streak against the Bobcats
SAN MARCOS, Texas – Louisiana looks to bounce back from a disheartening loss on the road at UTA when it wraps up a huge road swing at Texas State. Tipoff from Strahan Arena is slated for 2 p.m.
Â
Saturday's contest will be the final game of a brutal start to the Ragin' Cajuns' league slate, which consisted of five of the first six games on the road. Louisiana is currently 3-2 in league play and 2-2 in those road contests.
Â
Louisiana (10-6, 3-2 SBC) is still in good position through three weekends of Sun Belt action and can lock up its best start to conference play since 2017-18 when it also started 4-2.
Â
In its most recent outing, the Ragin' Cajuns had to play in a crazy environment produced by 6,000 screaming kids in Arlington and fell to UTA on its Education Day, 79-52. Jomyra Mathis and Brandi Williams each scored 13 points in the loss, while Ty'Reona Doucet added nine.
Â
Williams and Doucet continue to power Louisiana's offense, contributing 12.6 and 12.4 points, respectively, while Doucet is also the team's leader in rebounds with 7.7 boards per game.
Â
Texas State enters Saturday's game on a five-game losing streak and now owns a 7-9 overall record and a 0-5 record in league play. Despite the losing record, the team owns a 6-3 record on its home floor.
In its most recent outing, the Bobcats mounted a valiant comeback attempt in the fourth quarter, but it fell just short as the team dropped a 58-55 decision to ULM on Thursday. Da'Nasia Hood led the way with 20 points. Hood is the team's leading scorer, averaging 12.8 points per game, while Brooke Holle is second at 10.3 points per contest.
Louisiana and Texas State will be meeting for the 19th time dating back to 1973 when the two programs face off on Saturday afternoon in San Marcos. Texas State leads the all-time series, 10-8, but Louisiana owns 4-3 record over Texas State in San Marcos.
Under head coach Garry Brodhead, Louisiana is 6-7 against Texas State and is 3-2 against the Bobcats on the road.
