Ivailo Keremedchiev Shines at USTA Futures Event

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –Freshman Ivailo Keremedchiev has advanced to the main draw of the USTA Futures Event in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Keremedchiev is one of the four Ragin' Cajuns that are competing in the event.
The tournament began on Sunday and Keremedchiev was ranked as the 11th best player in the qualifying draw. Keremedchiev started off the first day beating Jose Dominguez Alonso, 7-5, 2-6, [10-4], followed by a second round victory on Monday over Nathan Han 6-4, 5-7, [10-8].
Keremedchiev claimed a victory in the third round on Tuesday to qualify for the main draw after beating Maxim Verboven, 7-5, 7-5. With his third round win, he secured a spot in the main draw.
"Though he's not playing his best tennis right now, he is finding ways to adjust and compete well with the tools that are working," assistant coach Luc Godin explained. "He managed his match and presence on the court really well which opened up opportunities at the different stages of the match that he was able to capitalize on."
In addition to Keremedchiev, three other Louisiana Men's Tennis players were competing in the event as well. Jan Galka, who earned the 10th overall seed in the qualifying draw, won his first round matchup against Jason Kerst in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 before retiring in his second round match.
Freshman Stefan Gazo battled with Austin Williams losing 2-6, 6-3, 8-10 in the opening round while Kacper Dworak fell 1-6, 5-7 in his opening round match.
