Young Named Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week

The announcement comes a day after the junior was named the LSWA Pitcher of the Week
LAFAYETTE – A day after being named the LSWA Pitcher of the Week following a stellar outing against Arkansas State on Saturday, junior right-hander Brandon Young has been named the Sun Belt Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon.
Young joins Hayden Cantrelle as the only Ragin' Cajuns to take home Sun Belt and LSWA honors in the same week. Cantrelle earned Player of the Week recognition from both entities on March 26 after hitting for the cycle against Northwestern State.
The right-hander is also the first pitcher to claim weekly honors from both organizations in the same week since Colten Schmidt did so in 2018.
The Lumberton, Texas, native was lights out in his second start of the season, going a career-best 7.0 innings and giving up just one run on four hits. He finished the game with 13 punch outs, the most by a Ragin' Cajuns' pitcher since Austin Robichaux struck out 14 batters at Little Rock on April 12, 2013.
Young and the Ragin' Cajuns continue their eight-game homestand with two midweek games, welcoming Louisiana Tech to Russo Park on Tuesday and McNeese State on Wednesday. First pitch for both games is slated for 6:30 p.m.
