Louisiana Falls to Appalachian State in Conference Home Opener, 6-5

The Ragin’ Cajuns gave up five runs in the final four innings
Despite the loss, sophomore Hayden Cantrelle continued his hot play with his sixth home run in the last five games. Cantrelle, who finished the night 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI, extended his hitting streak to 11 games with the homer.
Senior Brennan Breaux recorded two hits on the night and scored a run of his own, while Todd Lott upped his hitting streak to six games with a single and added two RBI. Orynn Veillon produced the team's only other RBI and finished the night 1-for-3.
Michael Leaumont (0-3) took the loss for Louisiana (10-13, 2-2), allowing two earned runs on five hits in 2.0 innings of work. Jacob Schultz continued to impress in his first season in the Vermilion and White, going 5.2 innings of four-hit, three-run ball with four strikeouts in his fifth start of the year.
After giving up an early run in the first inning, Louisiana answered back with two of its own in the bottom of the opening frame on Lott's sacrifice fly and Veillon's single. The lead was extended to 4-1 with home runs from Lott in the third inning and Cantrelle in the fifth inning.
Appalachian State's (9-11, 2-2) bats came alive in the sixth inning when it scored two runs, but Louisiana answered the call in the bottom of that same frame courtesy of a Kole McKinnon single.
However, the Mountaineers went on to plate a run in each of the last three innings, including the go-ahead run from Bailey Welch in the top of the ninth, to secure the 6-5 win.
Louisiana will look to even the series with Appalachian State on Saturday afternoon. First pitch from Russo Park is slated for 2 p.m. and can be streamed live on RaginCajuns.com/Watch.
