Louisiana Hosts I-10 Rivals McNeese State on Thursday

The Ragin’ Cajuns have won the last four matchups over the Cowgirls
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana returns to the Cajundome for two-straight contests beginning on Thursday, Nov. 14, when it renews its I-10 rivalry with McNeese State. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

In a series which dates back to 1972, the Ragin' Cajuns will look to extend their winning streak to five games over the Cowgirls in the 46th edition of the rivalry. The game is also the second of five-straight contests against Southland Conference opposition.

Louisiana (1-1) is coming off a heartbreaking 77-73 defeat on the road to Sam Houston State on Sunday, Nov. 10. Down by 11 points midway through the final quarter, the Ragin' Cajuns pulled to within two points with eight ticks remaining on the clock but were unable to overcome late free throws which ultimately decided the game.

Junior Ty'Reona Doucet notched her first double-double of the season and the 13th of her career in the loss, scoring 18 points and hauling in 14 rebounds while also swatting four shots. She was joined in double figures by Brandi Williams, who added 18 points against the Bearkats.

Through two games this season, the team is averaging 70.0 points per game on 39.8 percent shooting from the field. The deep ball has also been effective for the Ragin' Cajuns, who are shooting 39.1 percent from long range, ranking them second in the Sun Belt and 58th among all Division I teams.

McNeese State (1-2) is coming off a difficult loss, falling on the road to No. 22 Arkansas, 101-58. Sophomore Callie Maddox led the way for the Cowgirls in the defeat, scoring 15 points and notching two rebounds in 23 minutes of action.

Maddox is one of three Cowgirls averaging double figures in scoring with 12.7 points per game in three starts. Divine Tanks averages 11.3 points per contest and leads the team with 9.7 rebounds per game, while Regan Bolton is contributing 10.7 points through three games.

The Cowgirls lead the all-time series, 28-17, but the Ragin' Cajuns have dominated the series as of late, winning the last four meetings and earning victories in six of the last 10 matchups dating back to 1999.
